Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Clinical Programs, this newly created position is responsible for overseeing corporate clinical operations including patient flow, nursing resource team, staffing office, after hours patient care managers, as well as to liaise externally with organizations and key stakeholders, including the Central East LHIN, to forge new and innovative partnerships that will improve transitions of care for patients as they complete the acute phase of their patient care journey. From time to time, this positon will represent the EVP at various committees and forums as appropriate. 

The Director works collaboratively with the organization’s clinical directors to ensure smooth patient flow across and within the corporation and ensures a strong and nimble nursing resource team and staffing office that provides just in time replacement of staff as needed.

The successful candidate will have 5-7 years of progressive professional and management experience in a complex multi-site acute care environment, demonstrating abilities in building relationships, fostering collaboration, leading change and exploring innovative approaches to care delivery that focuses on improving the patient experience. The successful candidate will have the ability to work with leaders across the organization to transform and continuously deliver positive outcomes of care in a fast-paced, high volume environment. In addition to a Master’s Degree, the candidate will ideally bring leadership experience with a successful track record of achieving results that improve the organization and inspire confidence and commitment. 

Responsibilities:

  • The Director works closely with the EVP Clinical Programs, Program and Medical Directors, the broader leadership team, as well as internal and external stakeholders 
  • Works collaboratively with Professional Practice to ensure training requirements and practice standards of the nursing resource team are met. 
  • Demonstrate ability to support and embrace the philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care. 
  • Leads and overseas the day to day operations of patient flow across the organization 
  • Establishes and is accountable for the off shift leadership support across the organization 
  • Participates in Administrative on-call rotation and provides back-up coverage as required to clinical director colleagues 
  • Ensures the effective and efficient use of resources, both fiscal and human, within the program and corporately. 
  • Creates an environment and culture that will ensure patient and staff safety, and individual accountability. 
  • Demonstrates ability to support and embrace the philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care. 

Requirements: 

  • Must be a member of a regulated health profession, registered nurse preferred 
  • Masters of Business Administration, Health Administration or related master’s degree, CHE preferred 
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive professional and management experience in a complex acute care environment with understanding of hospital operations during and after regular business hours 
  • Deep understanding of patient flow tactics and strategies for improvement 
  • Current registration with relevant professional College/Association 
  • Experience in strategy development and implementation within the healthcare sector 
  • Strong knowledge of health system design and understanding of priority issues facing local health system 
  • Significant experience leading people and processes with the healthcare sector 
  • Proven ability to critically analyze issues 
  • Proven superior facilitation skills 
  • • Thorough understanding of LEAN management principles and benchmarking principles and practices 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively train, coach and mentor 
  • Highly developed judgment skills combined with tact and diplomacy 
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize work 
  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills that foster a collaborative team approach and builds consensus 
  • Proven track record of achieving results that improve the organization and inspire confidence and commitment 
  • Proven management skills including risk and patient safety, financial, human resources, quality improvement, change management, evaluation and planning and utilization management skills 
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment and a strong understanding of labour relations issues and processes 
  • Experience in corporate patient flow, corporate clinical operations, as well as knowledge and understanding of home and community care an asset.
