Elk Point is located approximately 235 km northeast of Edmonton and 37 km east of St. Paul and is home to over 1,400 people. Elk Point is along the southern leg of the Iron Horse Trail - 300 km of former railroad that has been adapted for hiking, biking, horseback riding, quadding, or snowmobiling. In this dynamic role, you will be working Acute Care, Emergency and Long Term Care at the Elk Point Health Centre in a Charge Nurse role. While working within an interdisciplinary team of compassionate and dedicated healthcare professionals, you will utilize the nursing processes and your critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide care to clients across the life span. You will ensure the development, implementation and ongoing administration of the client care plans created with patient- and family-centered care in mind.

Job Description:

You will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to effectively contribute to client care planning processes and provide improvement in service delivery.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and adapt communication style to meet the needs of specific clients.
  • Ability to relay client information to physicians who may be geographically removed in a concise and accurate manner in order to facilitate the physician’s treatment decisions.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to a client’s change in status.
  • Excellent assessment skills.
  • One (1) year relevant nursing experience desired.
  • Experience working in rural nursing.
