The Manager Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness performs a range of strategic and reactive functions in support of a healthy and safe workforce at the St. Michael's Hospital site.
Manages the activities of Workplace Health & Safety including Disability Management, i.e. return to work and medical duty to accommodate activities. Develops a policy and process for Emergency Preparedness i.e. Mast Fit Testing, evacuation procedures, and severe weather, pandemic planning, etc. Ensures development, implementation and communication (including the oversight of training programs) of all legislative and organizational policies and standard operation procedures, (e.g. Workplace Violence/Workplace Harassment; Joint Health & Safety Committee) to minimize risk exposure to the organization. Researches, recommends and implements a strong and effective Wellness Program.
As a strategic partner with HR and other departmental stakeholders, the incumbent promotes and fosters services that enable the achievement of the overall hospital objectives while successfully engaging employees, at all levels throughout the organization, to embrace occupational health and safety as a core value.
Through on-going compliance research, corporate policy development and execution, the Manager, Corporate Health & Safety collects statistics and organizational trends, performs data analysis; prepares performance reporting for senior management; and conducts workplace audits. Demonstrates leadership to motivate and engage others to adapt and commit to a strong safety culture across all 3 hospital sites.

The Program Director of the Inner City Health is directly accountable to the Executive Vice President, Clinical Programs and Chief Medical Officer. The Program Director will work with clinical leaders, physician leaders, and administrators to effectively and efficiently direct the operations of the Inner City Health departments. Key clinical areas for this portfolio include the Emergency Department, General Internal Medicine Program and the Mental Health & Addictions Program and potentially other programs within Inner City Health. Previous management experience and/or strong working knowledge of these clinical areas is required.
The Program Director is a visionary leader who looks for innovative ways to deliver responsive, patient- centred services to our local community. The Program Director is responsible for understanding the local and provincial healthcare landscape to help inform decision making. They ensure the overall management and operations of the Inner City Health departments in accordance with the St. Michael’s Hospital vision, mission, and strategic goals. The Program Director provides strong leadership for the interdisciplinary healthcare team including approximately 17-20 direct reports. The successful candidate will also ensure quality patient care, continuous program development, quality improvement and the implementation of strategic and operational planning; human resource planning; health science education, and clinical resource management. The Program Director must have highly developed political and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to build consensus amongst numerous players and inspire others while managing diverse relationships. An astute ability to see “the big picture” and significant competence with engaging community partners is required.
The Program Director is accountable for creating a strong team culture and it will be essential that they ensure continuity and standardization of policies, processes and procedures across the program. They must have a sound understanding of the complexities of IT integration across the hospital and healthcare system. The Program Director facilitates and supports effective communication and sharing between the Clinical Leader Managers and physician chiefs/leaders. It is critical the Program Director have a strong understanding of population health and the social determinants of health, and have the skills to lead the team to develop programs to meet patient and community needs. Experience with project management and program evaluation will be critical. Significant competence and comfort with coaching, mentoring and advising direct reports will be essential. Strong data management skills and knowledge and experience managing a large budget is required.
