Director, Diagnostic Imaging & Laboratory Services

 William Osler Health System (“Osler”) is one of the largest community hospitals in Ontario, serving 1.3 million residents of Brampton, Etobicoke, and surrounding communities within the Central West Local Health Integration Network catchment area.  Employing 5,500 staff and 1,000 volunteers, with an annual operating budget of approximately $725 million, Osler is a combined 882-bed multi-site community hospital offering a range of programs and health services.  Osler has three hospital sites:                                                                                                                             

 Brampton Civic Hospital (BCH) is a full-service community hospital.  Opened in 2007, the hospital has one of the largest labour and delivery programs in the province, and one of the busiest emergency departments in Canada.

 Etobicoke General Hospital (EGH) is a community hospital that provides all aspects of care including emergency services, surgery, and specialty clinics.  This site is currently undergoing major redevelopment and expansion.  The   Etobicoke General Hospital is on track to open its new, state-of-the art 250,000 sf wing in 2018.

 Peel Memorial Centre (PMC) for Integrated Health & Wellness offers specialized outpatient care, same-day surgery, and an Urgent Care Centre.  This site also focuses on health and wellness and on helping people manage chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes, and kidney disease.

The Position

This key leadership position is accountable for Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory Services and Neurodiagnostics across the three sites at William Osler Health System.    With a budget of approximately $60 M and 480 FTEs, this role is critical in providing value to our patients and partner areas across the hospital.  Working closely with the Associate Vice President of Clinical Services, this role will balance a high level of autonomy along with the need to collaborate successfully with others in order to determine strategic and operational objectives for the portfolio and to achieve the desired organizational outcomes.

 Key leadership functions for this role include:

  • Accountability for the creation, development and implementation of strategic priorities for the portfolio while garnering valuable input from physicians, staff and patients
  • Working collaboratively and strategically with key areas of the hospital to continue to improve the patient experience and to add value to our service commitment
  • Ensuring that Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory Services and Neurodiagnostics maintain a culture of quality performance
  • Continuously testing and implementing creative and innovative ways of providing quality services
  • Seeking out best practices, engaging with peers and other external stakeholders to ensure that Osler is at the leading edge in all disciplines


We are seeking a proven leader with 5 to 7 years’ of experience in progressively senior positions with a proven track record in transformational leadership in healthcare, a high commitment to employee engagement and to the patient experience.    The successful individual will have demonstrated a high level of adherence to quality standards, and seeking opportunities for continuous quality improvement.  In addition to a Master’s degree, the individual is preferably certified in lean management principles and process improvement, with experience in Diagnostic Imaging and/or Laboratory Services or a similar discipline.
