Job Description

Located in Barrie, Ontario, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), is the largest regional health centre in the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network (NSM LHIN). RVH serves residents across the fast growing region of Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka, providing care through 360 physicians, 2,650 nursing, allied health professionals and support staff, as well as 850 volunteers. RVH offers an array of specialized regional services including the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Program, the Regional Child and Youth Mental Health Program, the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Heart Program and Regional Renal Hub Program. As well, RVH is a designated Level 2 Vascular Centre. RVH has also received Stroke Distinction from Accreditation Canada for both Acute and Rehabilitation stroke services. In addition, RVH has many surgical and medical sub-specialities, as well as adult medical/surgical intensive care and a separate cardiac intensive care unit. The health centre has a robust women and children’s program, adult mental health and addictions program and comprehensive laboratory and imaging services. Interprofessional Practice is also a noted strength at RVH. RVH introduced its MY CARE Strategic Plan in 2013, refreshed it in 2016 and continues to use the plan as a roadmap to guide actions that will enable RVH to deliver inspiring care that puts  patients and their families first.

The Position

In this key leadership role, the Operations Director, Surgery and Maternal, Newborn, Child and Youth Program, will be accountable for the overall operations and care delivery across this clinical service continuum. The Operations Director’s portfolio includes a comprehensive suite of services encompassing the Surgery and Maternal Child Programs, including Operating Rooms, Day Surgery-Endo, Inpatient Units/Surgery Step-Down Unit, Surgical Ambulatory Clinics and MDRD; as well, the position has accountability for the Birthing Unit, Obstetrics, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics and Child and Youth Ambulatory Care. The Operations Director oversees approximately 9 direct reports with a budget of approximately $40M.  In this strategic and operational role, the Operations Director will ensure an ongoing commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centred care by actively promoting and continuing to advance best practices and high quality services, both within and outside of the hospital. 

Key leadership initiatives for the new Operations Director will be to:

  • Develop the business strategy and key metrics for this portfolio as it relates to partnerships, service planning and clinical excellence.
  • Lead the development of a new program plan in alignment with the RVH Strategic Plan for the evolution of the Maternal, Newborn, Child and Youth Program.
  • Advance the profile of these Programs by strengthening collaboration with both internal and external partners and providers.
  • Participate in the redevelopment planning for the current north campus and future south campus.
  • Develop and empower a cohesive and collaborative team that is service-driven and focused on establishing an exceptional patient care experience.



The successful candidate will have 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in a complex acute care environment. They must demonstrate excellence through experience in building relationships, promoting collaboration, managing change, seeking out innovative alternatives and prudent fiscal management. A champion of transformation, the successful candidate will have the ability to continuously raise the level of care to achieve optimal clinical outcomes. A Master’s Degree in a health related discipline or administration is required.
