Position Overview

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Executive, the Vice President, Women’s and Children’s Hospital will be a member of the Hospital’s senior leadership team. This transformational leadership role will have accountability for the practice, quality and operations of the current Women’s and Children’s program while providing strategic leadership as the program evolves into the Women’s and Children’s hospital. The Assistant Dean will work as part of the Dean of Students’ (DoS) Senior Leadership Team to deliver and evaluate an integrated system of wellness supports that strengthen individual and community mental health and well-being, and deliver prevention and support services related to sexual and gender-based violence. The Assistant Dean provides tactical and operational leadership to the Community Wellness Supports unit and the Sexual Assault Centre (SAC), overseeing a multi-disciplinary team that includes psychological support and crisis management services for sexual and/or gender based violence survivors, community well-being programs, and health promotion and educational initiatives.
The Assistant Dean is accountable for the effective management of all aspects of the Community Wellness portfolio, including its programs, services, and operations. Major areas of responsibility include: management of personnel, strategic planning, decision making at both the unit and departmental levels, developing and monitoring the annual budget and strategic priorities for the assigned areas of accountability, community partnerships and engagement, overall service management, and contributing to special projects, where needed. Duties
Strategic Planning and Leadership
Responsible for the overall development, implementation, and evaluation of specialized services in support of community wellness and sexual violence services for the University of Alberta campus community in the context of the University’s strategic vision and other relevant strategic documents.
Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates strategic plans and initiatives for the Community Wellness and Sexual Violence Supports portfolio and ensures their alignment with the strategic vision for the Office of the Dean of Students (DoS) and Office of the Provost and VP (Academic).
As a key member of the DoS Senior Leadership Team, works collaboratively to develop wellness programs and initiatives that enhance the university experience and meet the diverse needs of the community, which includes students, faculty, and staff.

As part of the comprehensive range of harm reduction programs offered by Moyo HCS, the Peel Urgent Public Health Needs Site (UPHNS) is a low threshold, health care service where people can use pre-obtained drugs in a hygienic environment under the supervision of trained staff and receive basic health care, harm reduction teaching and counselling as well as referrals to internal and external health and social services, also known as a Supervised Consumption Site. The Peel UPHNS is targeted to open before the end of 2023.
We are seeking a Nurse (RN or RPN) to join our team. The Nurse will work within a harm reduction framework to provide assessment and treatment functions for Peel UPHNS clients and work with the broader team in providing administrative and evaluation support for the program.

Reporting operationally to the Manager, Clinical Operations, and with professional accountability to the VCH Vice President Professional Practice, the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Assisted Dying Program, is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the delivery of nursing care and the formulation of organizational policies relevant to such care. The CNS works within the organization’s leadership framework to foster, facilitate and achieve the highest standards of service delivery and leads in the planning, development and implementation of clinical policies and programs designed for improving patient/client care. Provides expert advice and consultation in the areas of nursing, resource planning, program and health system improvement, research and professional development to support quality and utilization initiatives. Continuously evaluates practice and contributes to the ongoing organizational development of practice knowledge by evaluating research and developing frameworks and strategies to facilitate the implementation of best practices. Functions as clinical leader in Assisted Dying Program and advances nursing practice in the area of this specialty through the use of advanced practice and evidence based research. Works closely with Professional Practice leaders and acts as a liaison between various hospitals and/or community programs to facilitate integration of care across the continuum and reports on professional nursing practice matters. Provides leadership and expert consultation to team members and other health care staff, patients/clients and families/significant others. Works collaboratively with Program Managers, Medical Directors, Clinical Educators, Nurse Clinicians, staff nurses, and others members of the interdisciplinary team to pro-actively move nursing practice forward at the regional, provincial, and national levels.
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
Be responsible for providing leadership and expert advice and care in the area of oncology, nursing clinical practice and advancing care through professional development, education, communication, innovation, consultation and research.
Be consistent with the policies, standards and objectives of VCH and the health service delivery area, maintains administrative responsibility and authority while participating in decision-making, goal setting, policy development and program planning designed for improving the quality of acute care services.
Be responsible for standards of practice, stays current with literature on nursing practice and promotes the advancement of a research, theory, and evidence-based autonomous practice of nursing.
Facilitate the provision of oncology services across the continuum of care collaborating with acute and cancer care partners through the support for, and participation in, quality and utilization improvement initiatives.
Provide leadership, expert consultation and navigation to clients and families/significant others as well as staff.
Work collaboratively with Directors, Physicians, Managers, nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Masters degree in Nursing; plus current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
A minimum of five (5) year’s recent related experience working in a health care setting with a focus in Assisted Dying Program and in a progressive leadership role.
Canadian Nurses Association certification in a related specialty or membership in related provincial, national and/or international professional association(s) in Assisted Dying Programs preferred.
Knowledge of Federal legislation and Provincial safeguards related to MAiD essential.
Experience with complex care environments and 2 years experience as a CNS preferred.
Experience supporting quality initiatives, supporting research, and integrating evidence into practice is an asset.
