St. Joseph's Health System (SJHS) is one of the largest corporations in Canada devoted to health care. Founded in the healing mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton, SJHS was established in 1991 to meet the challenges of the changing environment for delivery of health and social services, and takes pride in a system-wide commitment to caring for the whole person: body, mind and spirit. Six different member organizations with multiple sites operate under SJHS: St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener, St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph, St. Joseph’s Home Care, St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre in Brantford and St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas. Together, these organizations account for approximately 8,000 staff (plus physicians, learners and volunteers), approximately 1,900 beds/units and a more than $800 million budget (not including long-term care beds). The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SJHS is also CEO of Niagara Health, which brings the total budget to $1.3 billion, with approximately 13,000 staff and physicians, and approximately 2,800 beds/units.

The Board of Directors of St. Joseph’s Health System seeks a visionary leader to become the new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Responsible for all strategic and operational management and ensuring positions, processes and outcomes are aligned with the Mission, Vision and Values of SJHS, the President & CEO will build upon the high performance and innovation abundantly evident in the organization. Central to this role is the evolution of the culture of SJHS to be the leader in Catholic Health Care in Canada. The new President and CEO will continue to liaise with and build durable and positive relationships with all levels of government and our primary academic partner, McMaster University. In leading the Senior Team, the new President & CEO will be responsible for succession planning and team development throughout SJHS.

Well-respected with an impeccable record of professional achievement, the preferred candidate is a successful leader with executive experience ideally acquired in the broader health care system encompassing oversight of a significant operating portfolio or enterprise. The preferred candidate has demonstrated strategic thinking and visioning of the future of health care with the capacity to mobilize staff and key partners. The new leader will work with a prestigious Board of Directors possessing a deep commitment to the organization’s success.
