The Position

The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) reports to the Senior Vice President, Enterprise Risk Management, Chief Information and Privacy Officer. In this highly strategic role, the CMIO will be responsible for leading and advancing the practice of Medical Informatics at THP. As a physician member of the THP Professional Staff, accountable to the Chief of Staff, the CMIO will support the delivery of safe, high quality, highly accountable and efficient patient care through the effective application of information and information technologies. As a trusted advisor and collaborator, the CMIO will be responsible for thought leadership in the realm of clinically-effective use of clinical information system(s), and in achieving optimum clinical value from internal and external clinical systems used within THP.

The CMIO will be a Professional Staff leader who partners with all leaders at varying levels, the Professional Staff community, IM/IT, and the broader clinical community in the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan for Information and Technology. While continuing an active medical practice at THP, the CMIO will support and drive the effective adoption of information and technology supports within the Professional Staff community.

Key leadership priorities for the CMIO will be to:

  • Champion the clinical information and digital health strategy as it relates to clinician engagement and participation.
  • Provide leadership for the development, implementation and adoption of clinical information and technology supports including the HIS Renewal Project, technology adoption, and patient reporting strategies.
  • Advance the practice and profile of medical informatics at THP by participating on relevant local, regional and provincial eHealth advisory committees.
  • Enable the strategic use of analytics and clinical decision support technologies to support patient safety and quality initiatives.
  • Collaborate with a range of stakeholders, within and beyond THP, ensuring effective health system engagement and the development and sustainability of regional partnerships.


You are a physician licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or eligible for licensure, and hold certification in Health Informatics, or other certification that is deemed to be equivalent. You are an experienced, inclusive and visionary leader with experience in implementing large-scale clinical information systems as well as a successful track record of leading in clinician change management. Recognized as an effective change agent and leader in clinical informatics, you have demonstrated your passion for technology and commitment to improving quality.
