This leader will share our vision for an integrated system of connected care and play a critical role in supporting Sinai Health’s vision, people and business plans, and core values and competencies.

As an innovation driven team, Microbiology is able to offer the full range of high quality microbiology services, from routine cultures and susceptibility testing to molecular diagnostic testing. New assays are continually being developed by medical and scientific staff in response to clinical and research needs. Governance for Microbiology is through a shared operating committee (consisting of a Medical Director and Director of Microbiology) reporting to a shared management committee, which determines annual budgets and operating plans. Institutional budget contributions are based on proportionate shares of workload and operating costs.

Sinai Health is also embarking on Phase 3 of Renew Sinai, which encompasses rebuilding of operating room, intensive care, laboratory and other clinical areas over the next five years. Sinai Health is also actively investing in capital equipment upgrades, with a mandate to improve quality and efficiency of care. These projects will provide major opportunities and impacts to Microbiology and Diagnostic Services as a whole.

The Director, Microbiology will provide the operational oversight and the strategic integration, transformation, and business development leadership, required to optimize Microbiology services across Sinai Health. They perform this function in collaboration with the current medical and administrative leadership structure at Sinai Health and at its partnership organization. The successful incumbent is a key member of our leadership team and will be responsible for contributing to the overall strategic vision and leadership for Microbiology Services across Sinai Health and the continuum of patient care.

Reporting to and in partnership with the Senior Director, Clinical Diagnostic Administration, the Director will provide seasoned leadership for planning, management, implementation, integration and coordination of Microbiology Services in support of Sinai Health’s Mission, Vision and Values ensuring excellence, effective leadership, and financial stability. They will collaborate with and support the advancement of shared services ensuring cooperative relationships that maximize the success of Microbiology and Diagnostic Services as a whole. The Director is accountable for developing and leading a high performing and tactically aligned portfolio that serves as the foundation for high quality, safe, person centered care, driving Microbiology efficiencies, sustainability and quality and ensures ongoing system wide risk mitigation.

 Job Requirements

The preferred candidate will have held progressive leadership positions in a complex healthcare environment, preferably within multi-site Diagnostic Services Microbiology Services, with significant experience in a senior leadership role, supported by a Master’s degree in a related field, good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists in Ontario (CMLTO), and a demonstrated commitment to team building and development. Extensive knowledge and practical experience in leadership development, change management, quality improvement, and project and program delivery, evaluation and performance management is required. Knowledge and experience in compliance with relevant accreditation bodies is also required to be successful in this role.
