Director, Long Term Care Services

With a commitment to the highest quality healthcare standards, York Region provides services to promote the health, well-being, safety and independence of all individuals requiring care. York Region’s two long-term care homes provide nursing and personal care services for adults who are no longer able to live in their own homes. Both homes specialize in meeting the needs of residents who need complex care and residents with cognitive impairments.

Reporting to the Chief and General Manager, Paramedic and Seniors Services, the Director, Long Term Care Services is responsible for the strategic leadership of the Region’s long term care homes; championing the advancement workplace culture and physiologically safe workplaces and acting as a member of the Branch’s Executive Leadership Team; leading the Division in strategic planning and operations to ensure a resilient modern organization; directing the development and implementation of sound business plans to meet legislated mandates and expectations of funders and regulators; and developing and implementing policies and programs to serve the needs of the community and the clients. 

The successful candidate will have a minimum of seven years progressive experience in the Health Care sector with responsibilities for administering long term care and seniors programs and services, program design, and strategic planning. With significant managerial experience that includes financial, budget administration and human resource management in a unionized environment, the new Director will use exemplary communication skills to support the organization through change, to manage sensitive issues as they arise and to deal effectively with various stakeholders including clients and families.

Successful completion of a University Degree in Health Services Management, Business or Public Administration, Clinical or related field, coupled with Certification as a Long Term Care Administrator by a recognized Provincial Standard is required.
