The Emergency Response Mental Health Nurse provides consultation or assessment service to the Emergency Department and the medical/surgical wards for management of patients with mental illness, substance use and/or challenging behaviours. This position provides recommendations in regards to caring for the patient, which treatment approach may be most effective and provides information on mental illness, substance use and challenging behaviours and prescribed approaches to care.

The InReach KGH Program is a hospital-based mental health and substance use consultation team and provides assessment and care plan development from an RN/RPN/SW with specialty in caring for patients with mental health and substance use issues. The program is operational 7 days per week and provides services to all ages.

This is a relief part-time (0.78fte) position until approximately March 2019 or until return of incumbent. Days of work are rotating and shift times days and evenings 08:00-16:30 and 14:30-23:00.

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses’ of BC (CRNBC) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses’ of BC (CRPNBC).
  • Formal education/training in acute mental health nursing and a minimum of one year recent related experience in a multidisciplinary acute psychiatry setting including experience in Emergency/Crisis Intervention and rapid assessment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
