LHSC Surgical Care Services Please apply to this posting if you are interested in a Registered Nurse role within Surgical Care Services. Outlines of the services provided below. General Surgery - The 8 Inpatient Unit within Surgical Services supports patient-centred care in a variety of specialties including General Surgery, Plastics, Urology, ENT, Dentistry, GI and Hepatology. On this 60 bed unit the Registered Nurse acts as member of the multi-disciplinary team to advocate, plan and provide care for patients and their families in a medium to high acuity setting. Transplant Unit - The Transplant Unit (MOTU) is a 12 bed Level 2 critical care unit that cares for patients Pre and Post Liver, Kidney, Heart, Pancreas and Multi-organ transplants. Total patient care is provided for this population. This care includes, oxygen therapy including Bipap, cardiac monitoring, hemodynamic monitoring, pacemakers, extensive special transplant related teaching pre and post transplant and the recently developed LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) Program. The Transplant Unit also supports non-transplant patients requiring Level 2 critical care. MOTU supports and participates in ongoing research, quality improvement and multidisciplinary activities. Ortho Trauma - The orthopaedic/ trauma unit within the Surgical Clinical Business Unit provides care for adult elective spinal and non-elective lower limb orthopaedic and poly-traumatic/ multi-system injury (not requiring ventilation or inotropic support). Total patient care is provided in a medium to high acuity environment. Day Surgery - The Day Surgery unit provides specialized surgical care to adult patients who are scheduled, prepared and recovered post procedure and transitioned to a safe discharge home. The Day Surgery unit supports and participates in patient family centered care, providing excellence in patient experience. Practice includes best practice, patient family education, safety, critical thinking and assessment in a dynamic fast paced Rate of Pay: $32.21 per hour - $46.11 per hour Qualifications Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C) for which you can provide proof upon request Current experience in surgical care preferred Minimum one year recent acute nursing experience preferred Minimum two years recent medical nursing experience or minimum of one year of recent surgical nursing experience or current experience in the Multi-organ Transplant program Recent experience in a level 2 surgical step down unit preferred Current experience with PCA/Epidural certification, venipuncture and I.V. starts preferred Current demonstrated knowledge of general surgical nursing principles Demonstrated excellent assessment and technical skills, and proven problem solving and decision making ability Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication skills and a high level of initiative Proven ability to effectively work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the profession Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a busy environment Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis London Health Sciences Centre fosters a culture of patient and staff safety whereby all employees are guided by LHSC's Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct.
