Job Description

TEMPORARY FULL-TIME ASSIGNMENT FOR UP TO TWELVE (12) MONTHS

Sinai Health System (Sinai Health) was created in January 2015 through the voluntary amalgamation of Mount Sinai Hospital (acute tertiary care hospital) and Bridgepoint Active Healthcare (complex continuing and rehabilitation hospital). The System was completed with the addition of Circle of Care (multi service home support services agency) as an affiliate.

As part of the vision, Sinai Health is seeking a Senior Manager, System Planning and Strategy, under the direction of the Vice President, Strategy and External Relations, to directly contribute to the development and management of the strategic and operational planning processes for Sinai Health, and contribute to the creation of high quality plans aligned with Sinai Health’s vision, mission and values.

Overview

  • Lead major projects that drive the achievement of Sinai Health’s strategic plan
  • Design and manage system-wide planning processes for SHS, including processes to develop and manage:
  • Develop and manage processes for ongoing monitoring of progress in implementing Sinai Health’s strategic plan and operating plan; include processes to develop mitigation measures if planning goals are at risk

Content and Quality of Plans

  • Working with the VP and other executives, ensure that Sinai Health has a clearly articulated multi-year strategic plan, aligned with Sinai Health’s vision, mission and values
  • Champion and facilitate the achievement of the Sinai Health strategic plan
  • Serve as a resource for planning within programs, departments and functions, enabling them to build high-quality plans that are aligned with the Sinai Health strategic plan
  • Identify gaps between the organization’s plans and activities, and the Sinai Health strategic plan, and work with relevant leaders to address those gaps
  • Advise the executive team on strategy as required, working with the VP
  • Ensure that SHS has a clear and high quality annual operating plan, linked to the Sinai Health System strategic plan, and incorporating operating plans for SHS’s clinical programs and Centres of Excellence (CoEs), departments, and functions

Clinical Program Planning

  • Support Sinai Health’s clinical programs and Centres of Excellence in developing their strategic plans
  • Develop a planning framework for clinical program and COE-level strategic plans
  • Support clinical leadership in creating and articulating program and COE-level strategic plans aligned with Sinai Health’s vision, mission, values and Sinai Health strategic plan
  • Develop and manage an accountability process to ensure delivery on clinical program and COE plans (e.g. monitor progress, define pace and sequencing of milestones, establish mitigation measures if planning goals are at risk, etc.) 
Strategic Projects
  • Lead major strategic projects, in collaboration with relevant clinical and corporate leadership
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of a strategically aligned program structure for Sinai Health
  • Contribute to Sinai Health’s external relations and advocacy agenda by preparing strategically driven position papers, materials, and business cases as required, in collaboration with Finance, Performance and clinical teams

Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of a related degree (e.g. Masters of Health Administration, Masters of Business Administration, or an equivalent education program) from a  recognized educational institution
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience, preferably in a health care organization strategy or planning position, or health care consulting environment
  • Experience in facilitating multi-disciplinary teams through strategic planning
  • Excellent networking and relationship building skills with both internal and external stakeholders
  • High degree of judgment, political sensitivity and strong negotiation skills
  • Proven equivalent and recent related education, training and experience may be considered
  • Models collaborative, cross-portfolio engagement to build consensus and to create solutions to complex issues
  • Understanding and experience of the complex health care environment and its stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with C-level / EVP-level executives
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills: written work should demonstrate strategic thinking, clear analysis and resulting recommendations for an executive audience
  • Strong analytical skills: experience with methodologies for completing impact analyses and financial analyses; demonstrated ability to interpret and to synthesize relevant information such as financial, case costing, and operational performance data
  • Experience with project management
  • Strong analytical abilities, ideally coupled with demonstrated organizational skills and experience coordinating multiple assignments/projects
  • Effective critical thinking and strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with ability to generate innovative solutions for complex issues
  • High ethical standards, promotes inclusiveness and recognizes and respects the value of diversity within our community and our workforce
  • Possesses a sense of personal responsibility for the overall success of the team, shares credit and recognizes people for their accomplishments
