POSITION: Patient Care Manager - Full Time 
DEPARTMENT:  ICU & Cardiology Program
RATE:  $86,775.00 to $106,723.50 annually

Ontario is expanding Cardiac Care in Sault Ste. Marie and is reducing wait times for people receiving heart disease treatment in the North by investing in Sault Area Hospital’s Cardiac Care Program.

Sault Area Hospital is already equipped with a state-of-the-art coronary angiography suite where cardiologists perform more than 850 angiograms per year.  The additional angioplasty procedure will take just 10 to 15 minutes and it will help up to 500 patients each year to receive timely treatment and avoid travelling to Sudbury or Toronto for angioplasty.  

When the project is complete cardiac patients will benefit from a new, additional laboratory that will provide full cardiac treatment and procedures in Northern Ontario.

Sault Area Hospital is presently seeking a highly motivated individual for an exciting opportunity to work with an engaged team and who is able to lead multidisciplinary health care teams in a constantly changing and complex environment.  Reporting to the Director Clinical Programs – the Manager will be leading the project team assigned to implementing the new services. This person will also be  responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and business components of the Level 3 Intensivist led ICU and Cardiology Program at Sault Area Hospital including: developing and monitoring annual budgets and forecasts and efficiently managing the human and material resources to allow for the delivery of quality person-centered care

The Manager will promote a healthy work environment in accordance with Occupation Health and Safety and Human Resource Standards and best practices as well as implement and monitor the annual operating plan for assigned services.   

DUTIES:

  1. Ensure program services are appropriately staffed, as per Collective Agreements, to meet care requirements of clients and manage any staffing issues that may arise.
  2. Collaborate with leaders of other departments to ensure that the necessary equipment and materials are available for staff to carry out their roles and that equipment is in good repair.
  3. Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of patient care and/or services, and implement improvements/changes as appropriate.
  4. Communicate regularly with internal and external customers (as appropriate) to assess level of satisfaction with services provided and implement remedial actions as necessary within available resources.
  5. Communicate regularly with other leaders to improve services and reduce expenses.
  6. Function as a professional role model demonstrating good interpersonal skills and a commitment to self-growth and development.
  7. Actively pursue methods/strategies to continually improve workflow efficiencies, quality of services, patient satisfaction and staff/patient safety.
  8. Ensure patient safety strategies are followed.
  9. Ensure implementation of decisions within own team.
  10. Responsible for completion of all items covered in Sault Area Hospital’s leader standard work.
  11. Ensure all work meets established quality standards (e.g. data entry).
  12. Support positive Sault Area Hospital image publicly and internally (as per Standards of Performance).
  13. 13. Assist in development of communications strategies/plans/messaging as needed.
  14. Assume other duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelors Degree and/or Professional Certification in a healthcare related field. 
  2. Current certification/licensing with appropriate regulating body in good standing, if applicable.
  3. Current registration in a Professional College.
  4. Minimum three years’ experience in Critical or Cardiac Care with experience in Cardiology preferred.
  5. Practical experience in new program development, integration and collaboration.
  6. Project management/leading a complex project would be a key asset.
  7. Experience with developing and monitoring budgets. 
  8. Experience in managing/leading multi-disciplinary teams in a unionized environment, including providing guidance and supervision to staff.  
  9. Proven leadership and decision making skills.
  10. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication. 
  11. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  12. Demonstrated behaviour consistent with the hospital’s mission statement and core values.
