Job Description

Inaugural Chief of Staff

Scarborough and Rouge Hospital (SRH) was established on December 1, 2016, following a merger of the Birchmount and General campuses of the Scarborough Hospital and the Centenary campus of Rouge Valley Health System.  These organizations have traditionally had a long history of working together to improve health care for the community they serve.  This historical partnership has resulted in the integration of various regional programs.   Their formal integration and the creation of the new organization will allow them to continue to be responsive to the needs of the Scarborough community and ensure that resources are used efficiently to sustain services well into the future.

At SRH, a quality patient experience comes first.  Affiliated with the University of Toronto, SRH consists of three hospital sites and five satellite sites in Scarborough. SRH delivers a broad spectrum of health services to one of the most diverse communities in Canada, including a full-service Emergency Department at each site, advanced maternal and neonatal care in state-of-the-art birthing centres, and specialized paediatric services. SRH is home to a number of regional programs serving the central east Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and beyond, including nephrology, cardiac care, vascular surgery, and vision care, and is recognized as a centre of excellence in orthopaedic surgery, cancer care, and mental health.

Reporting to the Board of Directors and working in collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief of Staff (COS) is the senior physician leader of the organization, a member of the Senior Management Team, and is principally responsible for all aspects of quality for medical, dental, and midwifery care at SRH.  The COS is responsible for participating in the development of the Hospital’s mission, objectives and strategic plan and for the creation and effective implementation of plans, policies and procedures pertaining to medical staff consistent with the SRH strategic plan and in accordance with policies established by the Board.

The Inaugural Chief of Staff will possess a Medical Degree, certified in good standing to practice in the Province of Ontario, as well as formal education focussed on physician leadership/development and in-depth knowledge of the Public Hospital’s Act, professional licensing/regulatory requirements, medical/legal issues, Hospital by-laws, Hospital operations and health system structure and functioning, governance systems and processes.  He/she will have proven experience leading organizational change and demonstrated their ability to lead cultural transformation. In addition, he/she will have demonstrated a visionary leadership style through progressively senior leadership roles, a passion for the delivery of the highest quality of patient care, a collaborative and transparent orientation and a belief that organizations can only be successful through the development of its people.

To express interest in this exceptional leadership opportunity, please contact Penny Mirams or Hayley Becker at 416-366-1990 or submit your resume in confidence to http://www.odgersberndtson.com/en/careers/14160.

SRH is an equal opportunity employer.  In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, upon request, accommodation will be provided by both Odgers Berndtson and SRH throughout the recruitment, selection and/or assessment process to applicants with disabilities.
