Vice President, Quality, People & Performance

St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario, is a provincial leader in cardiac care and the second largest acute care hospital in the St. Joseph’s Health System. St. Mary’s serves the residents of Waterloo Region and Wellington County, as well as residents from Perth, Dufferin and Grey-Bruce counties. Nearly 2,000 staff, physicians and volunteers provide patient-centred care to hundreds of thousands of patients every year in five core areas of clinical focus – Regional Cardiac Care, Respiratory Care (Level 1 Thoracic Surgery Centre), Outpatient Surgery, General Medicine, and Emergency Care.

Lean thinking is the cornerstone of both quality improvement and employee engagement at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff embrace the philosophies of Lean and build it into daily practice. Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President, Quality, People & Performance will provide strong senior leadership for the organization’s ongoing Lean Transformation. 

The VP will also lead a portfolio that includes Quality & Risk, Human Resources, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory Services and Performance Improvement.  The VP will lead these teams as they strive for continuous breakthrough improvements through the application of Lean thinking and the deliberate investment of time and energy to coach and develop staff and physicians.   This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic health care leader to join an organization with a vision to deliver the highest quality of care and the best patient experience.  

The ideal candidate will possess an optimal combination of the following experience, skills & qualities:

  • Demonstrated ability to apply Lean tools and methodologies in a healthcare setting (e.g. A3 thinking, root cause analysis, PDSA cycles of improvement, etc.);
  • A graduate degree in a healthcare related field (i.e. Master’s level or higher);
  • A minimum of ten years of progressive clinical leadership experience;
  • A passion for the mission, vision and values of St. Mary’s and a desire to contribute to the best possible experience for our patients;
  • Experience, at a senior level, as a human resources leader who has developed and led innovative people programs in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment;
  • A minimum of ten years of progressive leadership experience.
