Job Description

Associate Dean, Nursing
British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)
Greater Vancouver, British Columbia

BCIT is one of British Columbia’s largest post-secondary Institutes, with over 47,000 students enrolled annually. Renowned for offering hands-on, highly relevant critical training for more than five decades a BCIT education provides real-life, contextual instruction, and has increasingly integrated applied research into both educational practice and industry advancements.

BCIT’s School of Health Sciences is an integral contributor of health professionals to the BC health care system. The School provides instruction to more than 2,400 FTEs annually in 31 health related programs, some of which are offered exclusively at BCIT. Students are prepared in a wide array of health science-related programming, such as Occupational Health and Safety, Food Safety and Processing, Electro Diagnostics, Biomedical Engineering, the Allied Health Professions and Nursing. Demand for the programs is high. Health care has been BC’s second largest employer, with more than 250,000 people employed in the sector, and is projected to be a key growth area to 2022, likely to add an additional 64,000 jobs to the economy. With respect to the nursing professions, BCIT graduates approximately 20% of the province’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students and 100% of students who graduate out of Specialty Nursing.

An opportunity now exists in the role of Associate Dean, Nursing to lead the ongoing development and program delivery of the BSN program. Reporting to the Dean, School of Health Sciences, this individual will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Specialty Nursing and other School of Health Science Associate Deans.

The ideal candidate is a visionary nursing executive who brings an exemplary record of leadership within the academic or health sectors where they have gained experience with strategic planning, implementation, and change management as well as undergraduate nursing education where they have supported best practices in curriculum integrity and educational practices. These skills and experience will aid the successful candidate in inspiring and supporting faculty and staff to continue to anticipate and meet the ever changing education and practice needs of the nursing workforce in the province.

This is a unique and significant opportunity for a nursing leader to impact the system in a material way by providing leadership around the educational quality and scope of one of the healthcare system’s key contributors. If you would like to know more, please contact Alex Verdecchia or Kathryn Young in our Vancouver office at 604-685-0261. We have a detailed brief we would be pleased to share with you.
