The Position In this key leadership role, the Chief Communications Officer will help profile NYGH as one of Canada's leading academic community hospital systems. The successful candidate for this vital position will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive integrated communications strategy for both internal and external audiences. With an opportunity to strengthen NYGH’s external communication presence, this role will encompass media relations, digital communications, social media, government relations, stakeholder, philanthropic, and community engagement. Reporting to the President and CEO, the Chief Communications Officer will be responsible for ensuring all communications activities are developed, implemented, and measured to effectively support NYGH’s mandate and reflect the organization’s new Strategic Plan 2020-2025, brand positioning and narrative. The Chief Communications Officer will partner and collaborate across the organization and health system to support a stakeholder-driven approach that ensures that both internal and external organizational partners are actively engaged and supported in a wide range of NYGH’s communications initiatives. Key leadership initiatives for the new Chief Communications Officer will be to: Ensure the effective implementation of a comprehensive integrated communications strategy that drives active awareness and engagement, internally and externally. Lead, mentor, and support the organization in the creation and execution of projects to inform, engage, and enhance the organizational profile. Adapt and strengthen communications processes and activities to meet changing priorities, emerging issues, and trends impacting Ontario’s health care landscape across the continuum of care such as collaboration with North York Toronto Health Partners and Ontario Health Team. Support the vision around NYGH’s Master Plan as it relates to the narrative around imagining the future of health care delivery. Proactively seek opportunities to strategically profile NYGH. Experience The successful candidate will have at least 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in communications roles. This is a strategic and proactive leadership role that requires someone that excels at team development, multi-faceted communications execution, effective implementation across various mediums (e.g., media, digital, social, etc.), stakeholder engagement, and who is skilled at working on multiple complex projects with a variety of programs and partners. The successful candidate will ideally have experience in a leadership role in the Ontario health system or broader public sector and have a proven track record of delivery, with an ability to define and achieve a vision through to execution.
